As someone who never knew what it felt like to fully belong and be “okay” in her own right, without needing to change something, please someone else, weaken one thing, or amplify another, Shiran developed her own ways of coping, whether through eating disorders, spiritual practices, or other means of feeling in control.
After struggling for many years, she faced the coping mechanisms that held her back. Now, she understands that what felt like her entire self was only one chapter of a much more complex story.
When you lose a significant part of your identity, even a harmful one, you awaken to a space that wants to be filled. How do I feel about the unknown? Is it something to fear, or something to welcome?
In this exhibition, Shiran expresses on paper the ripples of her crisis, slowly daring to ask questions, using different language, emptying and sensing the new space within.
